One rod is mounted just below the top shelf and the other rod is mounted 42 inches above the floor. If the measurements seem too high or low for you adjust them accordingly. Meanwhile the lower rod should be set up around 3 3 ft above the floor. If you are installing dual rods in the closet the hanging measurements and spacing changes.

For a double rod closet the standard height of the top rod is 81 75 inches from the floor and the standard height of the bottom rod is 40 5 inches. Continue to allow about 24 inches of space from the rod to the back of the wall but increase the height of the top rod. This arrangement will make you effortlessly hang everyday blouses shirts shorts folded pants and blazers on the secondary bar. For a single rod closet the standard rod height is 66 5 inches.

This allows a double deck arrangement of closet rods below this shelf. The very top shelf in the closet is commonly 84 inches above the floor level. At 7 feet high the top shelf is a stretch for many people. If installing a double rod closet system mount the top rod 81 inches above the floor and the lower rod 40 inches above the floor.

There must be 42 to 44 inches between the rods to allow adults shorter. Double rod closets are intended to be used for hanging shirts and pants which are generally less than 40 inches long. This arrangement allow you to easily hang everyday shirts. Make this a full 80 1 4 inches above the ground which is high enough to hang two levels of clothing with 40 inches in between.
